The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has just completed its thirty-second year of monitoring nesting bald eagles. They have documented 2,942 nesting attempts and counted 3,597 fledglings. Surveys have gone from 16 sites in 1977 to 273 during the 2008 nesting season. During 2008, the 273 territories monitored produced 304 chicks. Overall, South Carolina eagles average 1.2 chicks per occupied territory. This season was particularly successful and averaged 1.4 chicks. This total includes the chick that The Ponds pair successfully raised this year.

The Ponds Conservancy is proud to be a part of sustaining this majestic bird life. We welcome our new family and hope to continue contributing to the quality of life in this state.
