The Ponds features a new, state of the art YMCA Summerville providing activities, sports, a wellness center and a variety of activities for The Ponds community. This project was spearheaded by a $1 million land donation and a $3 million construction cost gift by Greenwood Communities and Resorts.

The Ponds features a new, state of the art YMCA Summerville providing activities, sports, a wellness center and a variety of activities for The Ponds community. This project was spearheaded by a $1 million land donation and a $3 million construction cost gift by Greenwood Communities and Resorts.
The new YMCA includes:
- A wellness center with cardiovascular equipment and free weights
- Supervised playground and nursery for children
- Rooms for aerobics and other instructional programs
- A full-size gymnasium
- Full-service locker rooms for men, women and families
- Multipurpose outdoor covered pavilion
- Athletic recreation fields (coming soon)
- Organized sports and wellness programs for all ages
- Proximity to prime South Carolina real estate
The design of the new YMCA incorporates a cylindrical form, simulating a grain bin or silo found on a typical Southern farm, that's used for the Child Watch area of the facility. The new 25,000-square foot center was constructed in a rural, agricultural theme inspired by Old Summerville properties.
