Life at The Ponds

Owner Testimonials

Our owners can tell you more than any other why The Ponds is the finest new homes community in the Charleston area. From victorian-style single-family homes and townhouses with picket fences and lush landscaping to open green spaces, community parks and 60 miles of trails and sidewalks; you'll find The Ponds is a true Southern town with lots of charm. Here's what our owners say:

It took no time at all for me to make the decision to relocate my family to a Harbor Homes Rowhouse at The Ponds. As a Summerville resident, I have watched The Ponds develop over the past few years and knew that the environmental and outdoor focus would suit my young family, consisting of a 5-year old son and a 7-year old daughter. Now that we are residents of The Ponds, I know that I made the absolute right decision.

We love The Ponds. My children and I regularly hike the nature trails with our new dog, Samson, and enjoy watching the seasons change, particularly along the Village Pond Trail. My kids know where all the cute secluded parks are and love the Beech Park swings. Recently, we were able to hear all about the fish stocking/monitoring program at Schultz Lake and met up with Mr. Jack, The Pond's caretaker, to hear about the abundant wildlife at the ponds. Despite the often hectic nature of our lives, we relax as soon as we turn into The Ponds and see the beautiful landscaping and tranquil nature of our neighborhood.

While I was initially concerned with the small size of my Harbor Homes Rowhouse yard, it is the absolute perfect size for the kids to play in, is so easy for me to monitor from inside the house, and is so easy for me to maintain. As The Ponds offers so many parks, trails, and fields, a big yard is simply not necessary. Moreover, the kids and I love the sense of community at The Ponds and consider ourselves lucky to have such a great set of neighbors. Now, to get that golf cart!

I am a New Jersey native and Richard, my husband, is a California native. We both found our way to South Carolina through the Air Force 15 years ago where I retired after 20 years and Richard, after 27. Richard now works with the state teaching Boeing employees how to build the Dreamliner Aircraft whereas I work for the US Air Force as a consultant and certified financial counselor. In our spare time, Richard enjoys nothing more than a great conversation and a college football game. I on the other hand find great joy in spoiling our granddaughter, teaching fitness classes, and freelance photography.

About 6 years ago, we began our journey to custom build but just couldn't find the right home in the right neighborhood. When The Ponds broke ground, we were fascinated by its beauty but felt it wasn't quite the right time to make the move. In the past year; however, we became grandparents and knew the time was right to find a place where our grandchildren would enjoy visiting time and time again....the answer was clear. It had to be The Ponds. Every time we drove into the entrance of The Ponds and saw the village pond by the amphitheatre, we just knew this where we would call home. It was the grand oaks, swings, and careful attention to detail that drew us in.

This past summer, we took the plunge and purchased land in the Ponds. Our long term plan to build a custom home within the next 5 years soon turned into a one year plan that ended up even sooner than that. We couldn't wait and have already began the building process on our new land! Coupled with our selected builder, Sabal Homes, we are extremely confident that we've made the right choice. Since meeting and working with Matt Jones and Todd Ussery, our expectations have clearly exceeded anything we could have hoped for. Todd & Matt are the consummate professionals and we are looking forward to working with them as we venture on what will be our retirement home. We are very excited to become home owners at The Ponds.

Our family feels blessed to live in the Ponds. We relocated from Hilton Head Island, and were familiar with Greenwood Communities and Resorts' properties there. We knew the master plan would be thoughtfully designed, and loved the idea of a conservancy, instead of a golf course. The Southern architecture was also appealing. The ammenities are outstanding! The Farmhouse is a distinctive community gathering place. The freshwater pool is the ideal spot for relaxing, playing and socializing. The amphitheatre is a spectacular venue for concerts. And, the YMCA is the hub of adult and youth activites. There is always something on the calendar: as simple as hanging out with friends on the porch, or as grand as a concert in the park complete with fireworks. The neighbors take pride in getting to know each other. There is a closeness here, and sense of being a part of something that is evolving. We purchased our house with the expectation that we would make it a home where our children could enjoy their childhood. We have not been disappointed. It's a true value!

As a proud member of the Ponds community, I'm happy to reflect back on why we chose this as a place to build our nest. For us, what sets the Ponds apart from other neighborhoods is the feeling you get (and I still get) while driving up Hundred Oaks Parkway, a feeling of tranquility. Relaxing in the pool, under the oaks, with the legendary farmhouse in the backdrop continues to reconfirm our decision for choosing the Ponds. Like the roots of the old oaks, established deep in the ground, so is my desire to plant the roots of my family as they grow and develop, in a beautiful setting like the Ponds.

The Ponds is unlike any neighborhood we had looked at previously in two respects. It was apparent almost immediately when Jennifer and I first visited The Ponds that the respect for nature and the inclusion of a considerable amount of land that would not be developed was extremely unique in the greater Charleston area. We currently live in Wescott Plantation, and I believe the mindset of the mix of developers was to clear the land including most of the trees so that as many houses as possible could be built. We were interested in a neighborhood or development with a different mindset, one that balanced development with respect for the existing environment. A short distance from our property at The Ponds we can walk down to the lake or on the trail system and not hear a car or see any sign of human development. This is probably one of the most important and valuable aspects of The Ponds in my mind and almost impossible to find elsewhere in this area.

Secondly the interest by the fellow property owners to get to know each other and the sense of belonging to a unique residential community is what stands out to me in the short time we have owned our property. Those who have chosen to buy a lot or build a home in The Ponds I believe are looking for a different type of neighborhood, one in a way that harkens back to a less hectic, slower pace of life when people had more time to spend with their families and neighbors. The future development that will include small live work buildings at the entry to The Ponds, a brand new Y, future elementary school, fire rescue, grocery store, etc. will provide tremendous convenience for the residents and as a result a high quality of life that will be tough to beat elsewhere.

We are excited to build our new home in this neighborhood!
